About
Photos taken by Jill Ash documenting a slice of L.A.'s punk rock underground music movement of the late '70s. L.A.’s “accidental punk historian” —her photos are primarily of the influential L.A. band, The Germs. Many iconic punk venues of the era are represented in her photos including The Whisky, The Masque, Hong Kong Cafe, Club 88, Roosevelt Hotel, Kings Palace, and the Rock Corporation. In addition to the Germs, Jill photographed other bands including X, The Weirdos, UXA, Rik L. Rik, and Middle Class. Her work has been featured in previous gallery exhibitions Caught in my Eye and Wild Women of the Westside. Images from her collection can be seen in the films Sonic Highways and Rock of Ages, as well as, in print in the book Live at the Masque.
